The Vitabed Mattress and Pillow are made of Viscoelastic Memory Foam, originally developed in the Late 1960’s  by NASA for space applications. These special foams were developed to protect astronauts from the effects of massive G Forces experienced during take off.

Very expensive & difficult to produce, it took more than 20 years before mattresses and pillows made of this unique material reached hospitals & homes. It was soon realized that Viscoelastic foam products were extremely comfortable and reduced pressure points drastically. They provided the most natural spinal alignment and reduced pains to allow user’s to sleep peacefully . By the end 1990’s these foams had already created a revolution in sleep technology, worldwide. In the 2000’s 2nd generation advanced Viscoelastics reached the market. Metzeler, Germany’s largest foam producer then developed Metzomed. a 3rd  Generation Medical Grade Viscoelastic, that is highly ventilated, washable, consistent and the only Viscoelastic foam made using Sunflower Oil.
